DESCRIPTION::
ISFOC is taking part in the Project DisTecH2- Disruptive technologies for H2 generation and use whose main goal is to revolutionize the field of hydrogen production by designing photoelectrolyzers to scale up its production with sunlight powering the entire process. In this sense, DisTecH2's technology pursues the implementation of a prototype panel consisting of 0G-PEC modular flow reactors whose simple design paves the way for mass production, while the use of SEA-based materials and the high solar-to-chemical conversion efficiencies that can be achieved ensure its competitiveness in the larger landscape of production technologies.
To achieve this main goal, the following specific objectives are going to be covered:
- Research on a new generation of modular quasi-solid state photoelectrolyzers (PEC) to operate under continuous flow conditions and solar concentration to produce green H2 without the application of external electrical energy. Development of an efficient PEC system for H2 production using water and solar energy.
- Solar PEC system modelling. Evaluation of climate scenarios to analyse configurations and potential locations.
- Optimisation and manufacturing of the PEC panel, validation both in a laboratory environment and in real conditions. Scale-up of the PEC technology to produce H2 and demonstrate its viability in a real environment.
- Develop a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) prototype compatible with the PEC system. Coupling the SOFC and PEC prototypes for operation in a real environment.
- Market studies and risk assessment of the technology for market introduction.
DisTecH2 Project will be developed under Plan 4 of the Incentive Programme for the Innovative and Knowledge-based Renewable Hydrogen Value Chain in the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union-NextGenerationEU (Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge). The main goal of these grants is to contribute to the objectives set out in Investment 1 of Component 9 of the Recovery Plan for SMEs, the development of technological breakthroughs or prototypes in the renewable hydrogen value chain and the implementation of test facilities or new manufacturing lines.
