On October 21, 2020, the consortium of the CPV4H2 project - Pilot system for the production of hydrogen from solar energy with high conversion efficiency using photovoltaic concentration - successfully certified the 2nd milestone of the project in an online meeting attended by all partners and the CDTI technical auditor.
The consortium formed by the companies H2B2, BSQ Solar, and ISFOC, with the support of AROSA I+D for management, has designed, built, and tested a Green Hydrogen production system using renewable electricity from concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) technology. This system serves as a proof of concept for the development of an industrial prototype with a generation capacity of 17600 cm³/min of H2, based on a 6kW high-concentration photovoltaic system, which includes the management of a storage system to maximize the use of solar resources for green hydrogen generation.
The CPV4H2 project aims to develop and build a hydrogen production system by water electrolysis, where the electricity input comes from a high-concentration photovoltaic system, achieving the highest commercial efficiencies (STH - Sun To Hydrogen) and thus hydrogen production costs that, when scaled to industrial production volumes, are competitive with conventional natural gas reforming methods. It also includes a pilot system for monitoring and validating the production models and technologies developed.
With these initial results, ISFOC, BSQ Solar, and H2B2 are entering the technological race for the development of highly efficient systems for Green Hydrogen production.
The CPV4H2 project is co-financed by funds aimed at promoting regional cooperation in Research and Development (FEDER INTERCONECTA Programme - CDTI), within the framework of the 2017-2020 State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation. File: EXP-00110833 / ITC-20181066.
